     $50/hour private lessons

For the past year, Buddha Zhen has been hanging out with the Masons of the NoHo Masonic Lodge. Buddha Zhen also completed a few more degrees as a Royal Arch Mason this year. This was Richard Del Connor's last attempt at being a freemason. Richard had already quit masonry by the urging of several Master Masons and masonic secretaries. (Masonic secretaries are men who have the most stable positions in the lodge and usually control the membership and activities of the entire lodge more than anyone else.)

Richard became a "burden on the lodge," when he became homeless. Despite the traditional reputation of Masonry supporting other masons, the ACLU ended the practice of masons supplying jobs to other masons because this was a "prejudice" against non masons. So now masons don't help other masons find jobs, or homes, or help masonic families. As the Grandmaster of Nevada masonry stated to Richard when he inquired of help and services, "We have no resources for helping masons in need. It is not within us." California is one of the only states that has a Masonic Service Bureau. They were helpful to Richard by providing lists of government services for the poor and needy. Richard had already applied for all these resources, but it is probably a useful service to some masons.

Still, since he was sleeping outside their front door in his 1996 forest green Tacoma truck, Richard would pop into their Thursday NoHo mason meetings for some pizza and a chance to sign up some of the masons for his Kung Fu classes across the street from their Masonic Temple building. Several of the masons were already studying Wing Chun. Buddha Zhen impressed them with dynamic performances of the Yang Style Tai Chi Short Form of Shaolin Chi Mantis. A couple wives were going to sign up... Then Richard challenged all the martial artists to Push Hands competitions. Even after whooping every martial artist and demonstrating the advanced skills they could gain by studying Buddha Kung Fu--they were too busy to be a part of any exercise program. None of them were still attending their Wing Chun classes.

"I got one mason to buy a private bass lesson," smiles Richard. "But when I saw him last Thursday, he said he had too many family problems to take music lessons from anyone."

book cover of Masonic Kung Fu by Richard Del ConnorAfter an entire year of trying to sign one single mason to learn "Masonic Kung Fu," or Tai Chi... not one mason would take the time to even learn the Masonic Kung Fu that Richard discovered June 9, 2009. While studying for his 3rd Degree Master Mason Proficiency (testing), Richard discovered that a Kung Fu form he taught was really created to teach Freemasonry to Chinese martial artists. During the 1800s and 1900s, the Chinese were not allowed to join masonry, even though Masonic lodges of the Dutch, Germans, English, and America were prevalent in their coastal cities. "Masonic Kung Fu" ("Lian Bu" or "Ling Po") is a wonderful Kung Fu form that everyone should want to learn anyway. Students of Tai Chi Youth and Shaolin Chi Mantis have won many tournament trophies with this martial arts "dance."

One of the reasons Richard joined Freemasonry was because of its traditions of helping travelers and their masonic brotherhood. Sadly these traditions do not exist anymore. "I wanted to be a rock'n'roll celebrity spokesperson to revitalize masonry and get young people involved," Richard explained to a famous record producer who is also a freemason. But as the record producer and other high-ranking masons explained to Richard, "Freemasonry will never help any of your careers. I have never seen a mason help another mason with his career... ever." Politicians and religious people are afraid of masonry, because of public perceptions of it. The only people who have any use for masonry are men wanting to socialize with other men in their neighborhood or get out of the house once a week. Booze may have been a common goal of traditional masons, but that's not allowed anymore. They don't smoke pipes anymore, but most lodges have a cigar smoking or cigarette smoking group...

For a traditional view of Freemasonry read Richard Del Connor's book, Masonic Kung Fu.

About BUDDHA KUNG FU
Founded by Buddha Zhen Shen-Lang, “Spirit Wolf of Truth,” in 2005, Buddha Kung Fu programs have focused on the traditional Shaolin Kung Fu Forms, as seen in the David Carradine tv series, KUNG FU. Weapon classes include staff, spear, single saber, double sabers, and other classic Chinese weaponry. January 2008, all students of Shaolin Chi Mantis and Tai Chi Youth were automatically enrolled in the Buddha Kung Fu school programs.

About BUDDHA ZHEN
Buddha Zhen Shen Lang, “Spirit Wolf of Truth,” has been teaching Kung Fu since 1984. Buddha Zhen founded the Shaolin Chi Mantis traditional Buddhist Gongfu schools in 1992 after being hired by the Governor of Utah to teach Tai Chi in a maximum security prison. In 1996, Buddha Zhen founded the Tai Chi Youth nonprofit education organization which has taught Tai Chi programs in elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, Jr. Colleges, universities, and programs in several churches. Buddha Kung Fu is Buddha Zhen’s final dream of creating a Kung Fu school that Americans can accomplish and inherit.
